Intelligent trimming — Cannabis Post-Harvest Glossary | Keirton

Trimming with machine vision in the loop, deciding piece by piece which flower is done and which needs another pass.

Glossary

Intelligent trimming

Intelligent trimming pairs a trimmer with real-time machine vision that grades flower as it exits. Instead of one long dwell that damages every bud to finish the worst of them, the machine runs short passes and the vision system separates finished flower from flower that still needs work. Only the under-trimmed portion is re-passed.

Why it matters

The dwell-time problem is the single largest source of yield loss in automated post-harvest. In field data, intelligent trimming recovers 6–8 points of yield that conventional automation destroys, and cuts hand-finishing work by roughly 75%.

From the floor

A dumb trimmer forces a choice between yield and labor; an intelligent trimmer lets you have both by making a per-piece decision at production speed that no human sorter can reliably make.
